Darren Hardesty Jr
On The Track, Dirt

Hello, my name is Darren Hardesty Jr from California. My Father and Grandfather won championships in off road racing and I was born with a passion for racing.

My team competes in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) and I drive Pro Buggy #99. We started racing short course in 2010, I was 10 years old and my father purchased a junior kart from a friend. We’re fortunate to continue racing and I’ve progressed from sportsman to the professional level. In 2016 we won the Pro Buggy Championship and I became the youngest driver to ever win a LOORRS professional series championship.

2016 proved very special for our team with a lot of racing “ups and downs”. Like most series, the LOORRS series is long with 15 rounds. We started the season with a DNF in Round 1 and found ourselves last in championship points. Our team worked hard throughout the season and never gave up. We gained points in each round of racing and made it back to the top in points.

During the final round we were 7 points behind the defending champion and third in points. With only one race left to determine the champion, we won the race and finished in a tie for the championship. The tie breaker was determined by number of wins, and our 4 wins on the season gave us the edge.

At only 16 years old, I’m extremely proud of my accomplishments in racing. Most importantly I’ve learned to never give up on your goals and continue to work hard and stay focused. As underdogs all season, we proved through teamwork and determination you can succeed. Clinching the title in the final round left our entire team in tears. It was an amazing feeling that I will never forget.
